Announcements / FREEWAT - Remote training
« on: February 12, 2018, 09:44:25 AM »
Dear all

FYI

FREEWAT (www.freewat.eu) is a free and open source, QGIS integrated platform for the simulation of groundwater flow dynamics and related processes (interaction between ground- and surface-water, solute transport, density-dependent flow, water management in agriculture, sensitivity analysis and model calibration).

The FREEWAT platform integrates simulation codes belonging to the USGS family (e.g., MODFLOW, MT3DMS, SEAWAT, UCODE), along with tools for data pre-processing and post-processing of model results.

The training activities will consist in a set of FREEWAT tutorials to be performed individually. It is planned to be run between March 5th and June 3rd, 2018. Practically, the team will ask you and support you in performing one tutorial every 15 days, for about 13 weeks and a total of 50 hours of estimated commitment. During the whole period they will support you by email or skype means.

Please, notice that the FREEWAT platform, along with User manuals, tutorials and data, can be freely downloaded through this webpage. http://www.freewat.eu/software-0

The full training schedule is provided here.

Programming / Writing two dimensional netCDF file in python-Reg
« on: February 08, 2018, 12:45:42 AM »
Dear all

I tried to write a two dimensional nc file in python. I could able to generate the file but that spatial extent and resolution is not in proper. so it is not showing properly in ArcGIS.

Here is the code
Code: [Select]
from netCDF4 import *
from numpy import *
from openpyxl import *
import time

#Load the data sheet
wb = load_workbook('D:\\R_Workspace\\UB_Try.xlsx')
ws = wb['UB_details']

#To get the prec variable
ppt = []
for i in range(2,1696):
   ppt.append(ws.cell(row=i,column=3).value)

ppt_arr = asarray(ppt)

#Writing nc file
nc_file = Dataset('D:\\R_Workspace\\Test.nc','w',format='NETCDF4')

nc_file.description = 'Example dataset'
nc_file.history = 'Created on ' +time.ctime(time.time())

#Defining dimensions
lon = nc_file.createDimension('lon',57)
lat = nc_file.createDimension('lat',52)

#Creating variables
latitude = nc_file.createVariable('Latitude',float32,('lat',))
latitude.units = 'Degree_North'
longitude = nc_file.createVariable('Longitude',float32,('lon',))
longitude.units = 'Degree_East'

prec = nc_file.createVariable('prec',float32,('lon','lat'),fill_value = -9999.0)
prec.units = 'mm'

#Writing data to variables
lats = arange(16.875,19.425,0.05)
lat_reverse = lats[::-1]
lons = arange(73.325,76.175,0.05)
latitude[:] = lat_reverse
longitude[:] = lons
temp = zeros(52 * 57, dtype=float32)
temp[:ppt_arr.size] = ppt_arr
prec[:] = temp
nc_file.close()

created nc file is attached
any suggestions pls.. Thank you..:)

Abstract: To promote the advancement of novel observation techniques that may lead to new sources of
information to help better understand the hydrological cycle, the International Association of
Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) established the Measurements and Observations in the XXI century
(MOXXI) Working Group in July 2013. The group comprises a growing community of techenthusiastic
hydrologists that design and develop their own sensing systems, adopt a multidisciplinary
perspective in tackling complex observations, often use low-cost equipment intended
for other applications to build innovative sensors, or perform opportunistic measurements. This
paper states the objectives of the group and reviews major advancements carried out by
MOXXI members toward the advancement of hydrological sciences. Challenges and
opportunities are outlined to provide strategic guidance for advancement of measurement, and
thus discovery.
