2) Advanced Webinar: Investigating Time Series of Satellite Imagery

This training will focus on two tools, AppEEARS from the LPDAAC and LandTrendr via Google Earth Engine (GEE). AppEEARS enables users to integrate point or polygon ground-based data with satellite imagery. The GEE implementation of LandTrendr enables users to analyze land cover dynamics, including short-term disturbances and long-term trends. Both sessions will feature a lecture, followed by time for hands-on exercises and questions.

Date Range:  Mondays, April 15, 2019. April 17, 2019.

The India-UK Water Centre is convening two workshops 2019, and is inviting applications from the diverse water sciences, engineering, management, innovation and development sectors based in India and the UK to attend.

The first workshop on ‘Science and Innovation for Catchment Management’ will be held over three days at the University of Warwick, UK from 8th – 10th May 2019.

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University.  These positions will support collaborative research between Purdue University and the Arequipa Nexus Institute for Food, Energy, Water, and the Environment in Arequipa, Peru.  Application review will begin immediately with appointments starting as early as January 2019.  Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Position 1: The successful candidate will quantify groundwater - surface water interactions across spatial scales in the Arequipa region of Peru extending from the Coropuna Ice Cap to basin agricultural regions.  Candidates with experience in the analysis of stable isotopes, age-dating isotopes, and aqueous geochemistry are preferred.  Candidates should contact Lisa Welp (lwelp@purdue.edu) or Marty Frisbee (mdfrisbee@purdue.edu) for more information.

Position 2: The successful candidate will investigate sources of nitrate and sulfate aerosol pollution in the atmosphere and coordinate a regional rain sampling network to better understand atmospheric processes in the Arequipa region of Peru.  Candidates with experience in the analysis of stable isotope tracers, atmospheric transport modeling, or geospatial data analysis are preferred.  Candidates should contact Lisa Welp or Greg Michalski (gmichals@purdue.edu) for more information.

Under Women Scientist Scheme-B (WOS-B), proposals are invited from women scientists and technologists who wish to utilize their scientific knowledge and temperament for the benefit of society.

WOS-B focuses on projects leading to S&T based solutions of societal issues & challenges for social benefits. Such projects should deliver possible solutions by way of development of viable technology/technique and/or lab-to-land technology transfer, its adaptation and scaling up.

The project is tenable for a maximum period of three (3) years. Basic research proposals
will not be entertained under WOS-B.

Thematic Areas in which proposals could be submitted (indicative only):

Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS)
Health, Food and Nutrition (HFN)
Engineering and Technology Development (ETD)

Eligibility:

Women having qualifications in science & technology areas and in the age group of 27-57 years with break in their career but interested in addressing a well-defined/identified societal challenge through viable S&T interventions are eligible to apply. Women working as regular/permanent employees are not eligible to apply in this scheme.

Emoluments:

The fellowship amount under the scheme is:

Rs. 55,000/- per month (pm) for Ph.D. or equivalent (total project cost not exceeding Rs.30 lakh)
Rs. 40,000/- pm for M.Phil./M.Tech or equivalent (total project cost not exceeding Rs.25 lakh)
Rs. 30,000/- pm for M.Sc. or equivalent (total project cost not exceeding Rs.20 lakh).
Total project cost includes above fellowship of Principal Investigator (PI), consumables, travel, contingencies and minor equipments but excluding overheads.
