Hello Raj,

I am also want to include a lake in my VIC model. Raj, have you figured out a way to include wetlands and lakes in your VIC model?

I would suggest you to read documentation about HWSD first (see link below). Then you will have more ideas about this dataset. What you really need from this database is soil texture and/or USDA soil texture codes; then from such codes you can find other soil water properties required by VIC model. Read few VIC references, you can figure it out by yourself.

I am doing VIC model with two r packages.

1. VICmodel
2. hydroPSO

As you can see that hydroPSO can be used together with VICmodel to do auto calibration.

Enjoy VICing.

Does glaciers have any soil properties? Maybe treat them as water bodies?

Hi, anyone used VICmodel package ( This is an R package for VIC model.

I have just posted this message under different title, but I found that this message was more appropriate here. I tested this package with sample dataset. It runs very fast and make VIC much easier (compare with Linux style interface) to run and to do auto-calibration as well. Have a try.
